Birdwatching in Hungary: 4-Day Adventure in Kiskunság and Bükk National Parks (Nov 4–8)
Birdwatching Trip Report – November 4 to 8
From November 4 to the morning of November 8, we enjoyed a fantastic birdwatching trip, staying at the cozy Oriole Lodge in Tiszaalpár. The weather was wonderfully sunny throughout, though the mornings were bitterly cold, with temperatures occasionally starting at -4°C.
Our primary focus was the Kiskunság National Park, where we explored all the prime birdwatching locations. We also dedicated one day to visiting Bélapátfalva in the Bükk National Park, which yielded some truly fascinating sightings.
Highlights from Bélapátfalva:
- Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria)
- Grey-headed Woodpecker (Picus canus)
- Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)
- Woodcock (Scolopax rusticola)
- Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)
Highlights from Kiskunság National Park (Apaj, Pusztaszer, Csanytelek, Bugyi):
- Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca)
- Saker Falcon (Falco cherrug)
- Little Gull (Hydrocoloeus minutus)
- Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius)
- Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)
- Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dryobates minor)
- Short-toed Treecreeper (Certhia brachydactyla)
- Long-eared Owl (Asio otus)
This autumn trip was an absolute delight, with excellent weather and an impressive variety of species observed.
