Birdwatching Day Trip: November 24 at Pusztaszer Nature Reserve
A Day of Birdwatching in the Pusztaszer Landscape Protection Area
November 24, 2024
Last Sunday, we embarked on a one-day birdwatching trip to the Pusztaszer Nature Reserved area. The weather was calm, with no wind, and the cool, damp air wrapped the landscape in a subtle mist, creating an ideal atmosphere for birdwatching. Over the course of the day, we managed to observe an impressive total of 58 species.
The undoubted highlight of the day was spotting a juvenile Black-legged kittiwake. This northern-breeding species has been recorded in relatively high numbers in Hungary this year, making this sighting all the more exciting. It was a rare treat and unanimously declared the best species of the day.
Other notable observations included a black woodpecker, which graced us with its striking presence, and an eastern imperial eagle. Additionally, we were thrilled to find a lesser white-fronted goose among a flock of greater white-fronted geese. This sighting brought particular joy, as it had been months since my last encounter with this species back in March.
It was a beautiful winter birdwatching trip in the southern part of the Kiskunság, filled with memorable sightings and exciting species.
